Geology Program, Faculty of Engineering

• Department of Geology, Faculty of Engineering.• Taught core courses of Geochemistry, Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology. Also teaching elective courses of Hydrochemistry and Environmental Geochemistry, Geothermal Energy, Geothermal Geochemistry in different semesters, depending upon other commitments.• Supervising projects of the thesis based on the problems directly applicable to geothermal energy, mining, water, and environmental sectors.• Principal Investigator DIUDA Regular, Use of geothermal fluids to develop environmentally friendly methods for lithium extraction in the salt flats• Associate Researcher of the project titled “Linking hydric needs of water-scarce communities to ad-hoc water supply solutions: development of site-specific mitigation roadmaps with short/medium/long term actions with afocus on affordable conventional/non-conventional technologies” funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) within the framework of the "Strategic Drought Research Fund 2021".• 10 WoS-Scopus indexed publications with affiliation to the Universidad de Atacama.• Oral presentation at congresses and symposia, e.g. Geological Society of America Annual Meeting, 45th GRC, MedGU-21, SAGChi 2021 during the academic year 2021.

• Administración del departamento con 12 académicos, 5 personal no académcios y alrededor de 400 estudiantes.• 100% cumplimiento de las actividades definidas en el Plan Operativo Anual (POA) del departamento que atribuye al plan estratégico de la UDA.• Aprobación e implementación del nuevo plan de estudios de la carrera de Geología basado en el desarrollo de las "competencias genéricas y específicas" en los estudiantes con los "resultados de aprendizaje" medibles y un mayor énfasis en los cursos específicos de la disciplina.• Mejora continua del escenario académico que se ha resultado en nuevos logros e hitos para el Departamento de Geología y la universidad; por ejemplo, ser adjudicatario de proyectos como VIU (CONICYT-FONDEF), FDI-EE (Mineduc), este último con el Ranking #1, por la primera vez.• Convenios de colaboración con la Universidad de Minería y Tecnología de Freiberg (Alemania) y la Universidad Central del Ecuador.• Acuerdo con Maptek y Datamine para las licencias académicas gratuitas del software de modelamiento Vulcan y Studio RM respectivamente. • Adquisición de los equipos y materiales como donación por una empresa minera para armar un laboratorio de preparación de muestras.• Gestión de la donación de equipos y materiales por las empresas mineras; p.ej., equipos de espectroscopia de fluorescencia de rayos X (FRX).• Aseguró la participación de 84 estudiantes con beca para alimentación y hospedaje en el XV Congreso Geológico Chileno en Concepción.• Mejora del Laboratorio de Microscopía mediante adquisición de nuevos lotes de microscopios petrológicos y mantenimiento de los existentes. • Renovación del Laboratorio de Computación mediante adquisición de computadores compatibles para modelamiento geológicos complejos.
