I organized a virtual summer camp during the pandemic to introduce young children and teens in my area to computer science. I taught a total of 30 students from grades 3 to 12. The younger students learned to make their first few programs in Java and became familiar with the foundations of programming. The older students were able to delve into object-oriented programming, simple algorithms, and more. I walked students through lessons via Zoom explaining and demonstrating concepts through interactive means and then challenged them at the end with a quick but engaging problem. Many students finished with a new interest in computer science and everyone gained experience in a very important field that isn't taught well, if at all, in most schools.
