From 1998 through to 2002 I was Director of Intrepid Fuse Pty Ltd and was the Festival Director of Sunny Sedgwick Music Festival, a small, boutique independent Music Festival on a thousand acre farm 10 minutes out of Bendigo and 90 minutes from Melbourne. The festival ran bi-annually and saw over 60 local, national and international bands grace its two stages, in one of the most beautifully picturesque venues in Victoria. It was one of only a handful of festivals running at the time and was staged over three days. The only other festivals running at the time were The Falls, Meredith and Elderado, Folk, Rhythm and Life. In its last year of operation the festival changed focus and formed a partnership with beyondblue and was sponsored by Vichealth to help destigmatise mental health problems in rural and regional areas and to reduce youth suicide in regional areas. This came about as my sister, Sarah committed suicide in Bendigo after a frighteningly brief deterioration in her mental health. Each time the festival ran the audience grew steadily. The final festival in March 2002 saw over 2000 punters attend and was by far the most important event that I have run. By developing a key partnership with beyondblue - the national depression initiative, the festival was uniquely placed to disseminate really important information in a relaxed setting and was able to play a really important role of allowing beyondblue to access their target demographic.

Festival DirectorSunny Sedgwick Music Festival Nov 1998 - Mar 2002Sedgwick, VictoriaSunny Sedgwick Music Festival started in 1995 and was initially set up as a Greens Fundraiser. Ayesha purchased the festival in 1998 and became Festival Owner/Director from 1998 - 2002. The festival was held on a private property that was awe inspiring, think Stonehenge, in Sedgwick, 10 minutes out of Bendigo and ran over one night and two days. It showcased regional acts as well as booking bands of National prominence. In November 1998, she introduced Melbourne bands such as Even, Snout, The Killjoys, Warped, Hoss Tomorrow People, Maiko, The Fez Men & Budd (Qld). In March 2000 bands performed such as The Fauves, Rebecca’s Empire, The Meanies, Icecream Hands, Snout, Even, The Anyone’s, Dallas Crane & Chris Wilson. Chris Wilson generated 500 “walk ups” on the Sunday. In 2002, the focus of the festival changed to include a unique partnership with beyondblue after Ayesha's step-sister, Sarah committed suicide in 2001. Bands such as Area 7, Warped, Dallas Crane, Little Murders, The Killjoys, Mick Thomas and the Sure Thing and Dan Kelly all performed and many candidly spoke of their experiences with mental health issues, helping to break down stigma that surrounds these discussions. In between festivals Ayesha put together a benefit gig in June ’99 called “Get Up Stand Up”, for Care Australia to help aid the victims of the Kosovo war. Four bands took to the stage at the Hi-Fi Bar and Ballroom in Melbourne.• Paul Kelly (special guest appearance Renee Geyer)• Rebecca’s Empire• The Blackeyed Susan’s• The KilljoysThe event raised $6,500 for Care Australia. The ABC’s Four Corners was also in attendance, filming a large part of the event. Ayesha gained national coverage through Radio Triple J.She also organised Get Up Stand Up II – a benefit for East Timor. Performing at the Hi-Fi Bar and Ballroom were Something For Kate, Motor Ace, Dallas Crane and The Anyone’s. This event raised close to $6,000 for Care Australia and the Free Timor Campaign.
