  • Actewagl
    General Manager Retail
    Actewagl Dec 2009 - May 2019
    Canberra, Act, Au
My role as a senior executive for ActewAGL covered all aspects of energy retailing in Canberra and the Capital region. Retail functions that were under my leadership include sales to both commercial and residential segments, marketing, corporate affairs, media liaison, product development, pricing, regulatory, customer service, online communications, finance and administration.I led ActewAGL Retail through a multi-million dollar digital business transformation program to address the challenging market conditions, disruptive industry forces, the impact of technology and the ever-evolving customer needs. The first step was to implement a new billing and customer management system to reshape ActewAGL as a customer centric organisation that could operate in a digital age. As the Executive Sponsor, I ensured all project activities were undertaken with rigour, promoted a culture of strong quality assurance and led a comprehensive business change program which resulted in a flawless cutover in January 2017. This was the largest and most complex technology initiative that ActewAGL had undertaken. It was also the most successful project that was delivered on time, within budget, with high staff engagement and minimal customer impact. The benefits included a dramatic reduction in the cost to serve per customer, achieved by adopting a “digital by default” and a lean operating model.

The management of the Wholesale Energy Branch included the responsibility for purchasing energy (electricity, gas and renewable energy) and wholesale telecommunication services (data, television content and mobile telephony). It incorporated risk management, relationship management and contract negotiation. As Manager, Product Development, I was primarily responsible for all new product initiatives.
