This position serves the children and their families at the Youth Services information desk by helping children find materials and place requests, assisting children at the internet and games computers, registering children for programs, and assisting the librarians in preparing the program area and working with them in programs.Answers a variety of patron inquiries.Checks on the availability of and places requests for popular or new publications.Preparing and processing all children’s new materials for use and arranging collections and lists.Understands various collection codes and is able to decide which collection code is appropriate.Knows the various series and is able to determine if there are books that should be added to the series collection.Able to spot materials that should be in the Teen collection.Is able to understand when the vendor cataloging doesn’t make sense and asks supervisor if it should be corrected.Processes children’s magazine when part time library assistant is off.Tracks and prepares monthly statistical reports including the qualitative reports for the department.This position is expected to be the department liaison for the system Sustainable Shelves Program.This position supports programs and activities of the Youth Services librarians in their work with the children. The library assistant helps to design and prepare materials for programs and helps to monitor children’s programs.Gathering materials for weeding review and the associated follow-up work.Assist in processing library card applications.
