In 2017, Group Risk Management is transformed into a department with a new operating model. In this role, I organized, coached and developed a Team of 4 direct reports responsible for the development and implementation of risk management, internal controls and compliance in the areas of Group Finance, Information Systems, Procurement, Group Business Services and HR across DSM.I also led the efforts to identify and manage risks in key programs and projects such as Ariba, SAP 4 Hana, Shared Services transformation projects, Finance new operating model, etcI performed various process risk assessments - such as on P2P and OtC processes - whereby I helped in identifying and tackling process flaws as well as reduce costs,I conducted multiple risk assessments focusing on the IT security of major systems (Cloud Solutions/AWS, Data Analytics Platform, RPA, etc)I report risk related information to the units Risk Committees and members of the DSM leadership Team.

In 2015, BDR Thermea's supervisory board put more focus on the Group's governance and compliance. I was hired to lead the efforts to create the Group's risk management (RM) and internal control (IC) function from scratch with focus on internal control over financial reporting, code of conduct, export controls, business continuity and disaster recovery, anti-bribery and corruption, data privacy, corporate governance, segregation of duties.I performed workshops and conducted trainings in each division and major country to create awareness and ensure proper implementation of policies and procedures.I used best practices and frameworks such-as COSO, aligning with Dutch Corporate Governance code,I reported to the Board of Directors on a periodical basis. BDR Thermea not being listed in the stock exchange, the approach I followed relied more on convincing and attracting employees to embrace adequate sound RM, IC and compliance practices rather than referring to it as a legal obligation.
