Mar 2014 – March 2016: Managing Director, Vodafone Ventures Oct 2012 – Feb 2014: Vodafone Xone Senior Manager, Strategy & Business DevelopmentCreated “Vodafone Ventures”, Egypt’s first corporate VC unit, closed 9 deals (most active VC in 2013) with 2 successful exits (Kngine, Eventtus) which returned 3x the capital invested in entire portfolio, created the first overseas outpost for the VF Xone incubation program, established a strong regional ecosystem presence, and helped set up similar units in Kenya & New Zealand; efforts chronicled in the book, “Startup Rising” (p80-82).

Extended Vodafone’s data leadership through product innovation (apps & content services), customer experience excellence, and developer partnerships (advisory, partnerships, investments)Notable achievements:▪️ Led Vodafone’s data customer experience transformation program that extended Vodafone’s data leadership by revamping all touchpoints from data network (speed/coverage/reliability), through billing, video experience, and call center, down to details such as packaging, SMS scripts, and device firmware UI, with total investments exceeding EGP 1 billion across 50 initiatives.▪️ Achieved a thorough understanding of the local startup ecosystem and identified the opportunity for active participation, which paved the way for the subsequent creation of Vodafone Ventures Egypt.

Led & nurtured Vodafone’s rapidly-growing Mobile Internet offering through developing and launching apps/services/tariffs/promos/smartphones into the market, and by creating partnerships and joint marketing activities with app developers and smartphone vendors, with EGP 500m/yr P&L responsibility.Notable achievements:▪️ Played a key role in advancing mobile data in Egypt by launching its first Mobile Internet service, launching all major smartphone platforms, and launching ~20 apps/portals/services (10m+ downloads); consistently outperformed competition and become Egypt’s largest ISP by users (6m users)▪️Created the “Mobile Internet Customer Lifecycle”, a base management platform that tailors offers to current/past/ potential users based on behavior/interests/spend and which subsequently transformed Vodafone Egypt’s approach to customer targeting.▪️ Transformed content sales with 30x growth in 2 years, turned around ring-back tones from decline to 2.2x YoY growth (EGP 150m+ revenue), and introduced direct carrier billing to the Egyptian market.
