Ayusha Dahal Email and Phone Number
Hi! I'm Ayusha and I am curious, almost to a fault. I love to keep my mind engaged in all different fields - the goal being to understand the world better. It seemed almost natural then to choose a field with the potential to keep me eternally hooked - RESEARCH. I started the journey with 'Forensic Genetics', learning to code for NGS library prep for my Honours year (cried every day but loved the challenge!) and I now live my happiest PhD life looking at bones and developing an optimal strategy for examination of skulls in variety of forensic contexts. Thanks Patricia Cornwell and NCIS for first introducing me to the world of forensics! When I am not slaving away at the university or sharing PhD memes with my fellow researchers, I love to read - anything and everything (yes, sometimes even fan fiction), travel and enjoy a good red wine. I also consider myself a 'foodie' and can provide you a restaurant recommendation for almost every cuisine.Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk about forensics, bones or food.

Researcher Phd StudentUniversity Of Technology Sydney Mar 2020 - PresentSydney, New South Wales, AustraliaProject Title:The development and assessment of a minimally invasive/destructive anthropological, odontological, isotopic and DNA examination strategy to determine age, sex, ancestry, life history and genetic information from the petrous bone and teeth in cranium only cases.Project Significance:The analysis of cranium only cases in forensic casework is limited by the lack knowledge/empirical data of the optimal technique to accurately predict age, sex and/or ancestry. There is also limited knowledge of the optimal sampling technique for DNA from the selected areas under a range of conditions that the cranium might be subjected to in real-life scenarios. The analysis of potential difference in DNA yields for two different sampling techniques (destructive vs non-destructive) can result in a change in the current examination strategy for cranium cases. This project aims to address these current limitations for forensic human identification of cranium only cases. -
