Work-life balance is a self-imposed constraint that too often results in a forceful division of work from private. In reality, they are deeply intertwined. In a happy life - harmonious; not mutually exclusive. The classic work-life balance approach implies that 'work' sucks. It is the chore that, once ticked off, enables us to progress to 'private', which is where true life is at. This is wrong.I am passionate about reinventing life through work - the most potent of arenas for change. That is why, in my family business, which operates in manufacturing and retail, I am to lead the HR department in the near future. Today, I am in charge of a project developing a new business model for the bathroom retail department. This is my path to eventually taking over the business, once I’ve proven my worth.However, I want to use my skills and knowledge outside the family firm as well, where the impact can be bigger and wider. In my final year at the University of Manchester, I started thinking more deeply about how I manage and track my learning and development. Today, those thoughts have sprouted into Brainbow — an EdTech startup developing an application that will enable and empower people to grow and learn. Stay tuned!
