About Azmina Rose

BDRF Trustee quick-fire questions... Q: Why do you support Bowel Disease Research Foundation?A: Because it’s probably the best surgical bowel research charity in the world.Q: What makes you happy?A: Sunshine!Q: What is your greatest fear?A: Drowning – I can’t swim.Q: What is your most treasured possession?A: My ileostomy. It’s something that will never leave me and something I literally can’t live without.Q: Who would play you in the film of your life?A: Penelope Cruz – for reasons of height equivalency. You’d have to fold most actors in half.Q: Which book changed your life?A: Living with a stoma by Dr Craig White. Now Professor White, so I’m told. Candlestick in the drawing room, anybody?Q: What did you want to be when you were growing up?A: An ileostomist of course!!! Truthfully, I wanted to be a chemical engineer.. Q: Which living person do you most admire, and why?A: My sister because she’s the ultimate multi-tasker (sibling and best friend in one). Q: What single thing would improve the quality of your life?A: A tap or a plug for the end of my ileostomy, just so I could have a bit more control over when I empty my bag during the night.Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?A: St-st-st-st stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.

In 2019, Azmina gave the keynote at the Macmillan Corporate Partnership Awards. When she talks, Azmina combines her experience working with some of London’s most diverse cancer patient populations with her own past personal experience of being a minority ethnic colorectal patient. Azmina’s unique dual personal-to-professional perspective and her engaging, empassioned storytelling also make her a popular Macmillan media spokesperson. Credits include BBC Radio London (Drivetime and Breakfast), BBC Radio 4 (Woman’s Hour) and a recent 1-hour prostate cancer TV special. Azmina‘s in-depth knowledge of Information and Support, Recovery Package (Right By You - Acute), and personalised NHS cancer care, is regularly showcased at Macmillan team away days, UKO meetings, and external events. In the words of a Macmillan HoS, “Azmina is our ‘go to’ for insightful and powerful input and for memorable, motivating impact.”
