Owner Whistling Pig Music since 1979. Have written, recorded, performed original songs in Folk/Americana genre' since 1973. Toured 10 countries throughout Western Europe and the UK, performing with Joan Baez (who recorded my songs), in Fall and Winter 1997. Garnered awards and acclaim for my own albums, also engineering and producing the first two albums recorded and released by the now late song-master and father to Carrie Rodriguez., David Rodriguez--at the now closed yet legendary performance venue at Trinity & 6th St.., downtown Austin TX , Chicago House, where poets, artists, and music legends indeed once flourished, especially the incredible, unforgettable Jimmy LaFave. I've produced or co-produced multiple local albums including those by beloved songwriters Nancy Scott and songbird Christine Albert. And in 1985-1990 opened the The Songwriters' Information Center 1986-1990, in South Austin where aspiring writers and composers could hone their writing and copyright skills in order to foster and retain rights to their original songs. I studied piano in Greensboro, NC for 10 years, but after learning guitar, switched over happily--and not long after at 16 yrs, could be found singing for my supper, at beloved science teacher's family business, George Yelverton's BBQ in downtown Greensboro, NC. Later, started an all-girl Beatles cover band where I played my own Slingerland drum kit! Taught songwriting, composition, and performed, multiple summers at the Kerrville Folk Festival here in TX, and shared the esteemed Newport Folk Festival stages and Mountain Stage Radio Show with the great Joan Baez. After a medical setback, paralysis of the vocal chords in 2005, however, it became increasingly difficult to perform live, but I still worked in recording studios, adding backing vocals to other artists' albums and songs, including legendary Willis Alan Ramsay, Tim O'Brien, beloved Steven Fromholtz, Diana Jones, Kim Miller, and my dear friend (and popular Norsk recording artist, poet and photographer), Roy Lonhoiden, who has recorded several of my songs over the decades. And I certainly must acknowledge the wondrous musical contributions that husband Gene Elders, and longtime musical cohorts, Mitch Watkins and Paul Glasse, have made to all of my work.
