I am a Media Arts Specialist native to the Philadelphia area who aspires to become the world's 1st Video Game Therapist - one who uses Applied Behavioral Analysis to foster skill acquisition and suicide prevention within children and adults using video games. I believe video games contain therapeutic attributes which can help one better understand themselves and the real world. Be it Chess, Checkers, the popular Marvel VS Capcom Series, or the world's top grossing TCG (Trading Card Game) Yugioh, each medium has a way to speak to people. Using my research, I help individuals better understand themselves, their schema (how a person filters information), while increasing educational engagement and information retention within communities served.My long term endeavors:-Creating a funding plan for the Philadelphia School District-Providing life skills and academic opportunities with a yet to be named non-profit-Continued expansion and development of Main Course PHLIn the classroom, I combines technical knowhow, problem solving and relatability to engage the next generation of leaders. "How can my students use what they have, to get there where they need to be?"My goal is to solve real world problems through community enrichment using video games and media. I believe through working together with his peers, and professionals we will go beyond ideas with action. Media Arts (Communications Design) focuses on Technology of today and the future. Using real world exercises, we teach young people (high school students) how to run a business, create targeted language for varying audiences and the intelligence behind them. With the arise of new technologies and social media, students are using devices to design their stories by taking photos or video, adding music, filters, emojis and captions to illustrate their points. These techniques are used by businesses, big and small, to drive traffic to said outlets, build social clout and build community engagement.Communications Design is exactly that. Students are introduced to all media forms (print, broadcast and digital/internet-based), the technologies used to construct them, and how said technologies can or will be used in their future career paths. Students will construct their own versions of said media forms, while building with guest instructors from the Philadelphia area and participate in outings to 1. enhance their industry knowledge of the city, 2. identify the surrounding media entities and their technique(s) of delivery and 3. learn how the narratives of the world are constructed and how they affect those that consume them.We foresee a future drenched in media. It is important that our young people understand how to participate effectively in the culture of the world while maintaining their own unique voices. It is their job to speak up for themselves. It is their job to have a VOICE.
