The Commonwealth Heads of Government in Perth endorsed the establishment of the Commonwealth Youth Council in November 2011. Her majesty the Queen of England (the Head of the Commonwealth) together with the Heads of Government at the CHOGM in Colombo, Sri Lanka welcomed the election of the inaugural Executive of the CYC in November 2013. The establishment of the CYC to engage and empower young people in decision-making and national development is directly aligned with the Commonwealth Charter. The Magampura Commitment to Young People by Commonwealth Heads of Government calls for strong partnerships between the CYC, member governments, youth and relevant Commonwealth institutions. Led by a nine-member executive, the network acts as a coalition of national youth councils and other national youth-led bodies from the 53 Commonwealth countries. The network aims to further advance the youth development agenda by integrating young people into the development and democracy work of the Commonwealth at national, regional, and Pan-Commonwealth levels. It also provides a sustainable platform for unified engagement with decision makers and youth-led development initiatives.The Commonwealth Youth Council is committed to engaging, involving and advocating for young people. It facilitates and supports the work of youth-led initiatives, and partners with relevant stakeholders in representing and empowering young people in the Commonwealth.

EYC was formed in 2014 to serve as the commanding height of all youth movements in West-Africa. With decades of its existence, the organization has made a lot of monumental gains and achievements since its formation. As a regional student/youth organization, EYC set for itself such objectives as the integration of youth and student movements for the overall socio-economic development of the continent and pan-Africanism, defending students’ and youths rights, improvement of equity, democratization and equal access to education at all levels, and the fostering of academic freedom, freedom of research, autonomy of higher institutions of learning, and the promotion of democratic culture amongst its various peoples among other worthy objectives.

The Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN) brings together young people from across the Commonwealth to upscale and optimise grassroots, national, regional and Pan-Commonwealth efforts to promote peace, respect & understanding and preventing violent extremism. CYPAN aims at fostering collaboration between members and creates space for policy advocacy as it relates to peace and countering violent extremism. It is an initiative that is completely youth-led and supported by the Commonwealth Secretariat.
