I'm a co-founder at Workshop. Workshop helps purpose-driven teams design new programs and services based on research. We take a human-centered, design-thinking approach to solve challenges in sustainability and health. We use agile methodology to speed a solution through the process of research-strategy-roadmap. I managed Vumi, an open-source mobile messaging platform used by NGOs, government ministries and foundations to communicate with people in the developing world on a range of health, social and welfare issues. I led a multi-disciplinary team in the development of complex back-end systems and the design of effective, user-centered front-end experiences. I played a dual role of Product Manager and Scrum Master. During my tenure, the Vumi platform grew from a few thousand messages per month to a quarter-billion messages a year. Campaigns included maternal health in South Africa, empowerment of young women in Rwanda and election monitoring in India. Partners included UNICEF, USAID and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

I took a foray into the agency world, leading digital strategy for many of Viget's largest accounts. As strategy lead on PUMA, I led the design and development team responsible for building a global e-commerce platform. I learned all facets of the agency business, from finance to team development, and I played a leadership role at Viget's Southeast office. I also served as the product manager for the agency's own digital product ventures, like SpeakerRate. I learned how to best structure a product team in an agency environment.

I started my career at Lulu, a digital publishing start-up. I experienced the full start-up experience: growth, mergers, pivots, highs, lows. I started out as a user interface designer. I taught myself how to code. Eventually, I shifted into a liaison role between the creative and engineering teams.For the last two years, I was a product manager for Lulu's services and distribution business. I restructured the offering and grew revenue by 10x. It was a hands-on education in product management. I was responsible for all aspects of product management: finances, partnerships, roadmap-ing, marketing, delivery and growth. I learned how to power through pitfalls and challenges to drive a product from conception to adoption.
