About Ben Hunt
Did you know that the eye is the only place in the body where you can directly and non-invasively image capillaries and neurons (brain cells)? We are starting to learn that the diseases that impact the brain and vasculature also impact cells in the eye and that these impacts are detectable at the very earliest stages of the disease. The tech that can image these structures best is called optical coherence tomography (OCT) - basically ultrasound with light that produces very high-resolution images detailing the surface and subsurface of the back of the eye. Current OCT systems are generally expensive, fragile, and difficult to scale - limiting access. Siloton is using integrated photonics to develop a personal OCT system that is portable, inexpensive, and highly scalable - enabling widespread access. This system unlocks important improvements in care for patients with eye diseases such as wetAMD as well as the opportunity to leverage the unique properties of the eye to detect the most common diseases earlier than has been possible before. As CCO, I focus on the commercial side of the business (sales, fundraising, commercial strategy, GTM, regulations).
