Accidentally, I have started my professional life as a salesman !! P&G was recruiting on Campus at the American University in Cairo, and I decided, after attending an impressive presentation by their GM, Mr. Mohan, Mohan, that this is where I will work and no where else.Being the global marketing school, I applied for that department . Thanks God, I was rejected by Kevin Mackarty. After 2 hours of interviewing, he told me " my friend. I like you, but I can't do this. If I let you in the marketing field, you will fail miserably !! I am sending your application to the sales department. And this is where I ended up "accidentally". Kevin had the talent to discover that this is where I would excel.... and I did.After 17 years with Procter & Gamble, I moved to their JV Partner and Saudi Arabia distributor, ( Ismail Ali Abudawood Co,-) which became The Abudawood Group, as a result of the tremendous growth -- that I have proudly contributed to--. In my new role with Abudawood Group I had done Business Development, GM roles opening new markets, and starting new businesses.In 2008, having Recognized my great passion towards people in general, and human development in particular, Samir Ishak, Abudawood VP operations, direct Manager -- and the reason behind my move to Abudawood-- , Convinced me to start a Corporate Learning & Development Department , finally after failing to convince me before in 2003, when I first joined.This was a unique experience, since the model we adopted was to have Learning & Development report into the VP operations and not to HR.
