He was part of the original set of designers hired to work for the company in Detroit, and was instrumental in bringing several key products to life during his time. Bailey brought a dedication and passion to the team that made working alongside him a genuine joy. Bailey’s responsibilities were multi-facted; he often led design research activities in the field, trend and competitive benchmarking work to help properly position new products, and of course, concept creation in all phases. Bailey’s ability to understand the athlete at both an emotional and functional way allowed him to always have a balanced approach to designing new equipment. I was often very impressed with Bailey’s ability to find the right problems. He has a gift for teasing out the unmet needs that athletes were facing in a way that made the design work more purposeful. He also has an eye for manufacturability and cost-sensitivity. ensuring that his designs were feasible for production. He brought a welcomed pragmatism to our team that helped balance some of the more conceptual ideas with features and details that kept the products in scope, and also on time for delivery. Bailey was instrumental in the design and delivery of several key products. The XENITH Shadow helmet, our first new helmet in several years, was brought to market at record pace because of the rapid ideation, physical prototyping and clay modeling he completed. While our team is quite collaborative with helmet design projects, and Shadow was no single person’s creation, his contributions were crucial to its success. In addition to the flagship helmet work, he also designed our first new shoulder pad in several years, Element. This pad extended our range of possible options for football athletes and teams in meaningful ways, and was solely Bailey’s creation. Outside of both of these critical products, Bailey brought to life many various accessories, and even several apparel pieces that launched in 2018 and 2019. His ability to adapt to many different design mediums is an other trait I admire; he has endless flexiblity to modify his approach and tools to whatever he’s working on. It’s rare to find a designer who possesses both soft and hard goods design skills, and it’s something I always appreciated about his work - he applied the same thoughtfulness and considerations for the features he’d design into a duffel bag that he’d put into a football helmet. He leaves no detail untouched. We will miss everything he brought to the team. He deserves the opportunity to continue his career in design, and I am happy to discuss his performance in greater detail for anyone who would like to do so.
