My internship at Modine Manufacturing was the most beneficial in regards to my early engineering career. The shop I worked for was mainly involved in manufacturing EGR coolers for companies like Volvo, Ford, and Caterpillar. In this position, I was finally able to put my engineering knowledge to the test. While at Modine, I was responsible for creating new jigs, fixtures, and specialized gauges. I carried these components from the design phase, all the way through validation and installation. I stood out among others at this job due to my work ethic and heavy technical background. I was able to pick up and understand new topics quickly, making the design phase more efficient. I also trained myself on mills and lathes when the onsite tool room was overflowed with work. I managed a large project list, and was effective at completing jobs on time and up to specification.

My internship at Ford Motor Company allowed me to hone in on technical and communication skills. I was responsible for assisting dealerships with automotive service repairs regarding transmission and electrical systems. Over the course of the internship, I was able to practice my professional skills and take small classes regarding professional topics. I went above and beyond at my position by requesting to interview employees in many different areas of the company. This provided me insight on how the company operates, and how the employees view the company.

Hired on as a Corporate Intern in the Dealer Service Tools Division. The division is responsible for designing and marketing new service tools to dealers around the globe, as well as servicing all existing tools. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to participate in engineering design reviews, as well as complete several projects. The first was an engineering print update project in which I was responsible for collaborating with SnapOn about obtaining tool specifications. I would then update our database with the current information for the engineering print. My second project required me to verify the existence of special engine tools, ensure they were assigned to the correct engine, and create tools that did not yet exist. The third project was to create a cost and time comparison between using additive, or subtractive manufacturing methods for a service tool. I reported my initial findings, and also made design recommendations to make the product cheaper, faster, and more durable. I was asked to continue working for Caterpillar Inc. from home in Pittsburg, KS. The Dealer Service Tools team enjoyed my work so much that they requested that I continue to provide assistance to them.

Technical internship that lead to much more. I had to quickly learn about shop processes, workflow, and customer relations. I essentially ran a single bay, boat service shop for most of the summer. I excelled at these tasks, and was able to measure my success based on the competitor's work output.
