His name is Bailey Hutcheon, he is a first-year nursing student at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, at Arizona State University. Bailey is from Santa Rosa, California, where he and his family have lived for generations. His first semester at ASU, Bailey has participated in multiple community health events. He has volunteered with the Phoenix Mobile Health Unit, providing health screenings to people who would not have regular access to healthcare. He provided blood glucose readings, BMI, as well as blood pressure screenings to people who may not have regular access to a doctor. The clinic also provides referrals to open clinics, as well as doctors for the patients that they see. Bailey is also a member of the Medical Directive at ASU, which is a club that offers healthcare services to people who do not have a permanent residence. The club offers “street runs” to the members, which includes going out onto the streets of Phoenix and serving the underserved communities. By doing this, he hopes to make a small difference in the community in which he is living. These experiences have made him thankful for his experiences and the community in which he was raised. As a student, Bailey has always made community service a top priority. At home he was known for making homeless care packages around the holidays. Which included a pair of socks, some snacks, water and a smile. Since the age of 14 he had been volunteering with his local summer camps, which then led him onto his camp counselor career of 5 years. While being a camp counselor, he was in school to become an Emergency Medical technician and hopes to complete Paramedic school shortly.
