My career started out in pursuit of becoming a healthcare provider: I trained as a paramedic and later studied midwifery for a few years before realizing that I was more excited about supporting other learners to succeed and engage with their studies than I was about catching babies. I formally transitioned to education in 2021 when I joined the UBC HIVE and began applying my experience as a health professions student to the design of learning experiences for students in medical, midwifery, and biomedical visualization programs. In 2022, I began the UBC Master of Educational Technology (MET) program part-time while working full-time with the HIVE, and will graduating at the end of 2024. The MET program has reinforced my passion for designing engaging, equitable, and inclusive biomedical learning experiences for students of all backgrounds. My teaching and learning experience design philosophy is based on a failure-positive and prototyping mindset. I believe that learning should be hands on and mistakes should be expected and celebrated. I'm particularly interested in designing learning experiences that focus on developing the critical skills of collaboration, creativity & innovation, problem-solving, adaptability, and empathy. I am currently the Program Coordinator and an instructor for the UBC Certificate in Biomedical Visualization and Communication (BMVC), which is a fully online continuing education program. I also am a member of the HIVE where I work as a learning experience designer collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create biomedical education solutions with emerging media.
