Lecturer Of Organic Chemistry
Teaching Fellow
I taught an introductory course on Integrated Chemistry and Biology. Each week, I teach a combined discussion + laboratory that covers topics from electronegativity and chemical bonding, to cell signaling and polymerase chain reactions (PCR). Students not only gain a strong foundation of life science principles and laboratory techniques, they each exhibit growth in asking questions, recognizing patterns, and cultivating a dynamic space in which everyone is genuinely curious.
Graduate Teaching Fellow
I was a Teaching Fellow in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses for 22 terms during my graduate career. I developed worksheets and led discussion sections for both General and Organic Chemistry, guiding students towards a deeper understanding of the material and providing a safe space for students to ask any and all questions. In the Organic Chemistry labs that I taught, students learned the importance of concept application, technique mastery, and fun (while staying safe!) in the lab.
Stockroom Manager
I oversaw and empowered undergraduate staff in preparing organic chemistry lab supplies for chemistry students, as well as managed all organization and maintenance of lab supplies and student work spaces. I also organized all inventory data on current lab supplies, and acted as a liaison between chemical vendors and the teaching staff in order to obtain the necessary lab supplies for an incoming class of 750 students.
Writing Fellow
Mentored 8 college freshmen in how to develop their scientific writing skills. Students worked on logical argumentation, data collection, effective literature search, and stylistic prose. By the end of the semester, each student demonstrated personal growth in producing a scientific paper that was scientifically compelling and sound.
Undergraduate Student Researcher
Developed synthetic methodology of relevant N-heterocyclic backbones for pharmaceutical compounds by synthesizing variously-substituted 2-pyridones; characterized compounds via NMR. Project resulted in regional and national American Chemical Society poster presentations.
Supplemental Instructor
Tutored students in Organic Chemistry I & II; developed worksheets based on lecture material, and facilitated student discussion and problem-solving skills.
