In this role, I provide wellness and sick care for patients ranging from newborns to young adults. Prior to appointments, I review and interpret patient data and make recommendations or identify potential concerns for the provider. I also provide education for patients and their families through anticipatory guidance during well visits and through telephonic triage using a standing protocol.

In this role, I developed the IV Therapies division of Holistic Wellness Center while also performing occupational health services, including drug screens, COVID tests, and workplace physicals, both in office and on-site at local businesses. I also managing all ordering of IV supplies (including researching different vendors and performing cost analyses), trained new nurses that came on staff, wrote and educated other staff members and policies and procedures, performed patient education, and coordinated care with the nurse practitioner and medical director.

In this role, I worked with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care of a diverse patient population. Even though the floor’s specialty was in nephrology and urology, we saw patients from nearly every specialty. During this time, I learned and practiced many valuable nursing skills, including IV insertion/removal, urinary catheter insertion/removal, wound dressing changes, management of peritoneal dialysis, NG tube insertion, and medication administration. I also learned how to prioritize care and multitask accordingly, how to adapt as emergencies arise, and how to work with a team.
