When I was younger I was infatuated with technology and all the wonderful things it could do. Little did I know then I would dive into the deep ocean of coding and explore the ever-growing fields that exists cause of it. I didn't actually start coding however till my freshman year of college. This is when I took an intro course of computer science as an elective. It was a basic course that focused more on scripts and simple programming. I was fascinated with all the possibilities to consistently solve new problems. I would consider myself a problem solver as I like to come up with new ways of solving problems and be able to try to do something better than it has done before. After this I decided to change my major to Computer Science and take my first big step to where I am now. Recently I was able to explore that even further.This summer I was lucky enough to be able to take my coding knowledge from school and personal projects to the workplace. I was able to get an internship with Cottingham & Butler located in Dubuque, Iowa. There I helped develop software that sped up the time of a process that took hours to do. Now it only takes 30 min. Through the internship I also helped create an in-house web portal using Bootstrap and KnockoutJS to help speed up and clean a previous way of doing a project. Being able to be challenged and go after new problems was so satisfying and I can’t wait to see what other problems I will be able to face in the future and see the solutions I will come up with. Through school and through my internship I’ve learned a wide variety of languages and skills that will be useful in many different work places and environments.Skills: C++, C#, Java, Microsoft SQL Server, Bootstrap, KnockoutJS, HTML, GIT/GitHub/GitLab, and COBOL.
