Head CoachCity Of Monona Parks & Recreation May 2023 - Aug 2024Madison, Wisconsin, United StatesHead coach of the U12 Girl's Fastpitch Recreational Softball Team. A coworker informed me of the position and described the program being unable to run without a head coach. I stepped in to further my engagement in the community and to experience the game I loved and played for the majority of my life. As head coach, I was responsible for coaching 12 girls under age 12 who had never played softball before, with the exception of a few. The fundamentals of rules, throwing, catching, and batting were taught. Avoiding injury and discouragement was a major consideration in practice and games. Another major topic of instruction was sportsmanship and player etiquette. As a former 3-sport athlete, I ensured that I taught not only skills to play, but how to respond and play with respect. Attitude is extremely important when not only playing sports, but also in life. So many life lessons were learned through my 10+ years of competitive athletics and my coaches were the most impactful during these times. I wanted to prepare the players for their futures and build their abilities, physically and mentally. This opportunity was entirely volunteer and re-ignited my desire to play competitively again. Losing my last season to the COVID-19 pandemic after successfully recovering from an ACL repair just 9 months before, I longed to play. Furthering the connection with my community, I am currently leading the second season as head coach of the U12 fastpitch team! -
