About Bailey M.

I graduated in 2020 from a four-year study abroad program, majoring in Global Studies. I spent my first year in Costa Rica and Panama, focusing on Spanish, writing, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. My sophomore year fall semester was in Europe and Northern Africa, where I studied marginalized communities, identity and gender construction, and political and personal integration. I spent the spring of my sophomore year working as a social–work intern with the International Rescue Committee. I then took the Summer in the Rockies NOLS course, where I developed leadership, environmental and outdoor living skills. I spent my junior year in the Asia- Pacific and Australia, where I studied decolonization, postcolonial frameworks, first peoples history, alternative narratives and environmental conversation. During the fall semester of the senior year I interned at Te Organganui Medical Center in Whangnaui, New Zealand while researching how connection to the Whanganui river affects Maori peoples health and wellbeing. I was based in New York City and interned at the American Red Cross during the final semester of my senior year. I am an outdoor professional who hopes to work on decolonizing the wilderness and working to make it a place of inclusion that recognizes the history of the land and the people who have historically been excluded from these spaces.
