In the third semester of my master studies, I had an amazing adventure when I travelled to Singapore for an internship to work on an autonomous wheelchair to enhance accessibility for physically challenged individuals. This wheelchair has been retrofitted with various sensors and technologies that are similar to those of self-driving cars, equipping the wheelchair with advanced robotics technology.Working as a research assistant, I developed and tested various navigation systems in ROS (Robot Operation System), implemented state of the art path planning algorithms in C++ to find the best application to make the wheelchair able to navigate in a dynamic environment while ensuring safe transportation. I tested my codes both in MATLAB, Simulink and Gazebo simulation, then implemented them on the wheelchair. My algorithms and parameters are now being used as the base set up for the project. I gained a lot of experience in motion planning, sensor fusion and ROS. I learned how to develop together with my team on large scale projects and represent a new product on expos.
