This internship was aimed at getting hands on experience on the production of acetic acid and acetic anhydride. Under the guidance of BP engineers, I gained a better understanding of the links between process safety and the mechanical design of a storage vessel. As part of the design project, my team and I had a two-day workshop on the health and safety aspects of acid production. The workshop was focused on team-building, P&ID reading and development, and the production of a HAZOP/HAZID for assessment of safety critical systems.
