Based within McLaren Special Operations, I was responsible for the Engineering & Delivery of MSO components and systems to timing, cost and quality targets. Working closely within a small, yet talented team, I am afforded accountability & autonomy to allow the robust design & release of components, utilising the tools at my disposal - including SAP, Catia, DFMEA, PPAP and other internal McLaren tools & processes.

In this unique role, I was charged with the responsibility of delivering both hardware and software solutions for a number of future vehicle programmes on a single vehicle architecture. This position broadened the scope of my skill outside the traditional confines of Mechanical Engineering and has instilled a Systems-based Engineering approach in my work. Day-to-day interactions and responsibilities included:- Facilitate & Lead Supplier Technical Reviews on a weekly basis, bringing together cross-functional teams to ensure on-time delivery- Requirement Management using IBM Rational DOORS- Review & Releasing of design changes, managing the supply of components from multiple supplier sites into three JLR Manufacturing plants

During my time at Holden, I was given the opportunity to work closely with Design Release Engineers, Suppliers and Management in the design, testing and procurement of Chassis components. This role presented opportunities to undertake invaluable on-the-job training, which enabled me to become the first Co-Op participant to complete both Green and Black Belt certifications in GM Design For Six Sigma, as well as attaining certification in Shanin RedX. Combining the skills learned on-the-job with the knowledge gained from University, I was able to successfully work within teams to successfully deliver cost savings on products, and successfully lead projects to the commercial discussion stages.

This role taught me many valuable organisational and leadership skills, and gave me the opportunity to work closely with clients, stakeholders and staff. The role required me to work closely with the proprietors to ensure a safe & happy workplace that complies with OH&S requirements as well as proper food handling procedures.Balancing the responsibilities of working 25 hours a week in this high-pressure role with the responsibilities of completing the requirements to complete my degree in Mechanical Engineering was fundamental to my success, and I was able to pick up many skills in time management and prioritisation in this journey.
