Having voice is one of the most influential superpowers a person can have to make a strong impact on their self and world. Creating videos is my superpower to give voice to my own experiences and similar experiences that have silenced from mainstream society. My hope is to bridge connections through video storytelling... Current Projects:- Cope With Me Through Depression video. DirectorWorking with an assistant director, Mai Lee Vang, having gone through dperession ourself, we want to use the power of video storytelling to create a short narrative film about how three different people experience depression and the ways they’ve used to tackle it. Our hope is that these stories will empower those who have and experience depression to tackle their own depression. Kang Vang from The DIAL group are producers of the project. - Empowering Hmong Girls Through a Storytelling Book video. Director In collaboration with a Hmong Language educator, Pang Yang, and Girl's Scout Program Lead, Ia Ong Yang, girls from their class and program are writing personal stories about growth, culture, family, identity, and school to be published into a book through the grant, [grant name]. I will be filming one video documenting their process of story writing and another video on a specific girl's story. These stories and videos will be showcased at a school wide event where parents and community leaders are invited to view and have conversations about the experience. - Hmong Language Curriculum Grant videos. DirectorPrevious projects:-The Storm. Assistant Camera-woman and Film Crew (directed by Kang Vang)

Women Circle of Peace offers an open and safe space for Hmong women to gather with a meal to build relationships and connections by having conversations about issues that affect and matter to them. The process of the circle uses a talking piece that circulates from the facilitator to the right which allows each woman a chance to share their story on a question about their identity, family, personal life, professional and career life, emotional well-being, spirituality, and track in life. The topic ranges in all capacities of what a woman experiences. We meet every Thursday at 6pm in the Center Room of Unity Church. Act Test Instructor

Lamton

Saint Paul, Minnesota

Lamton's mission is to promote Academic Achievement, Health and Wellness, and Student Development through weekly tutoring sessions at the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota. I was excited to support Lamton's mission when one of the founding members, Tenzin Choerap, asked me to lead ACT test strategies workshops to their high school juniors. There, I led nine consistent Sunday ACT workshops on testing strategies, skills, and content knowledge of the five tested subjects, and also squeezed in a two to three lessons on college preparation. In these lessons, I incorporated games, group and individual reflection activities, and created worksheets to accommodate different learning styles. I have also had the pleasure of building great relationships with the 10 juniors who attended the workshops. A few students continue to connect with me with questions about the ACT test and college information.

Junior Coach

Saint Paul, Minnesota

I realized the impact and importance of a college education being a a first generation student and alumni of College Possible, an intensive after school program that guides highly motivated students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for college access and success. Therefore, I spent one year serving as a junior coach where I gained interpersonal, communications, and strong organizational skills as followed:• trained on the five month ACT test strategies and techniques curriculum • planned and facilitated two weekly lesson plans which included games, group and individual reflection activities, and worksheets to accommodate different learning styles • managed classroom behaviors through creative, positive reinforcement approaches• built and sustained relationships with 37 students through listening and individual meetings• connected and collaborated with school staff about recruitment and Summer Bridge projects • provided and organized eight hours of community service opportunities for 37 students• and problem solved students’ personal issues by communicating with families and counselors.

Team Leader

Minneapolis, Minnesota

My first classroom began with Athletes Committed to Educating Students (ACES), an after school program focused on closing the achievement gap by providing positive role models for inner-city youths. With the 15 fourth graders at Jenny Lind Elementary School, I spent two hours each week leading workshops focused on three main subjects: 1. understanding their personal identity2. exploring different cultures3. and learning about raptors and its nature. In the workshops, I made sure to include welcoming circles before workshops began for students to get a chance to express their self to their peers. Here is a list of the tasks I had and demonstrated:• tracked attendance for data review• enforced classroom management with a three step break system and rewarding points• chaperoned field trips to the sports game and educational events• management skills, lessons, highs and lows, and next action steps• and managed volunteers to work with students on homework or lead activities.

Tutor

Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area

Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) focuses on preparing all students for college through strategic planning and organizing. My role as an AVID tutor involved assisting teachers in implementing these strategies and leading tutorials at three different schools: Patrick Henry High School, Olson Middle School, and Cityview Community School. Tutorials occur twice a week in an AVID classroom and each student comes prepared with a completed Tutorial Request Form (TRF) ready to be presented. My role as the tutor is to facilitate by asking varying levels of questions and encourage students to do the same. During presentations, everyone is expected to take Cornell Style notes based the presenter's notes. This process repeats with each student presenter. I also help manage a positive group work environment by implementing team building activities. Besides tutorials, I also met with teachers and other tutors to discuss what went well and how tutorials can be better facilitated. Two to three times a year, I assist teachers in leading college campus visits and educational field trips. During freshmen recruitment in the Spring season, I helped designed a informational poster, attended freshmen orientation day and promoted the AVID program.
