We build and maintain all trucking products at Flexport, from internal operator tooling, to carrier-facing workflows and integrations. Established Trucking engineering presence in Bellevue, WA. Grew the team from 5 to 30 over a 6 month growth period across both Chicago and Bellevue. Worked with engineers to source estimates for projects, then projected product delivery ETAs through capacity planning.- Coached engineers both on and off of my team through the promotion process: SWE1 -> SWE2 and SWE2 -> Senior promotions.- Established a Directly Responsible Engineer (DRE) initiatve for projects, allowing our team to scale as we grew quickly without additional EM or PM support. Engineers were responsible for full projects end to end: requirement confirmation with stakeholders, design, implementation, rollout, input / output metric tracking.- Conducted 450 technical interviews for engineers of all levels (SWE1 through Senior Staff eng, including Engineering Managers).- Drove Correction of Error (COE) root cause analysis with the team after incidents to ensure we never repeated the same incident twice.- Grew a scaleable and repeatable carrier integration process to improve development velocity from months to 1 week for new integrations.- Created an Operational Excellence (OE) POC initiative on the team, where a rotating member of the team would own the identification and fixing of OE related issues on our team for a quarter.- Owned product support (PSUP) process - our team drove the support backlog down from 170 to under 100 tickets within a 2 month period. -

I worked with our product team to ensure I delivered messaging in line with product vision, and that the technical depth of the presentation was appropriate for the audience.- Fought for DRY architecture: instead of implementing user management in our application, I worked with Product and Identity Management teams to centralize this responsibility in a new "accounts” application that could be used by all of Uptake's products.- Advocated for standardization across frontend teams: used Uptake's Architecture Design Record process to research options on HTTP request libraries and Javascript Testing Frameworks, and validate the conclusions with relevant stakeholders.- Identified need for more frontend familiarity across platform engineering teams: developed “Frontend Fundamentals @ Uptake” curriculum to quickly bring backend engineers up to speed with frontend landscape. Enlisted other senior engineers to help prepare and deliver course content.- Gave tech talks at frontend community of practice. Presentations resulted in quick performance wins for frontend engineering teams across the company, due to increased awareness.- Jumped in to help Uptake.org's Student Union team make some changes to their Django application during a series of tight deadlines. React went from a "framework for side-projects" in the company to a production ready solution within a year of my joining the organization. - Developed curriculum for a React Fundamentals course, targeting backend engineers with little to no prior frontend experience. Curriculum covered: Flux architecture, component decomposition, and ES6 features for React applications.- Presented at the inaugural "By Tech For Tech" speaker series in the Chicago office. I worked with IT Program Managers and a cross functional engineering team to help define user requirements for the portal, and examined both "company internal" and "third party external" tools that could fulfill those requirements. I provided a gap analysis of all internal/external tools against those requirements to management at the end of the summer, so they could make a decision on which solution to implement after my internship ended.I delivered a Windows 7 desktop widget as proof of concept for the portal at the end of the summer.
