In 1980, I joined IIT Delhi like any other young boy with dreams in my eyes. I Completed my MTech, and PhD degrees from IIT Delhi. Thereafter, I joined the University of Oxford for my postdoctoral research. The only aim of my life was to become a professor in IIT. My dreams came through and in 1990, I joined IIT Kharagpur as a Senior Lecturer. However, during these 10 years my eyesight deteriorated so much that I have to leave the institute. Completely shattered and disturbed, I shifted to Delhi, and started an institute for IIT JEE coaching with the name of Bansal Tutorials Private Limited. For 28 years Bansal Tutorials did very well. By the time I turned 60, I went completely blind. In 2018 I sold my lovely institute and decided to work for the blind children. It was that time when I learnt screen readers. In 2018, I could get two totally blind students that were preparing for JEE. Fortunately, I could get both of them to qualify JEE. Saurabh Prashad joined IIIT Delhi in CS, and Gaurav Sharma joined Delhi Technical University in IT. This gave me enormous confidence. In subsequent years I could get eight blind students in top engineering institutes including one in Stanford University. I found that accessible books in science and mathematics are not available for the blind students, and hence started preparing NCERT class 6 to 12 Science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, computers, economics, and accounts books. Hundreds of blind students now use these accessible books. Since December 2022, I am working to improve the quality of the white canes used by the blind people. I have made revolutionary changes in these white canes and displayed my products in Empower 2023 at IIT Madras. These affordable and modified white canes were highly appreciated that I am invited to the purple fest Goa 2024. I take pleasure in conveying that my first blind student, Mr. Saurabh Prasad, now working for Microsoft, has been selected as the Ambassador to purple fest Goa-2024. I love physics and mathematics from the core of my heart, that I was always the topper in my class and was the most favorite student of all my teachers, Although I left IIT Delhi in the year 1990,My Guru Ji Professor R.G. Mehndiratta, the then Deputy Director of IIT Delhi, Still loves me and is in contact with me and my family, I believe in three D’s, that is Devotion, Dedication, and Determination. I take my blindness as a blessing that gave me an opportunity to work for the cause of the blind and visually people in India.
