After a life exploring the African continent from a very early age in my families adventure travel business, I founded the popular travel app Roadtrippers, which grew to millions of users and a successful exit in 2018. As a "side gig" I also founded Northcrown, a real estate developer focused on urban rehab with over 300k sq ft of holdings under development.In 2021 and beyond I am moving into hospitality, beginning with three distinctive, globally influenced bars. We design and build dramatic venues entirely ourselves, creating not just beautiful venues, but ones imbued with a sense of meaning that we seek to inject into even the tiniest details. We believe the old ways of doing this are coming to and end, and we aim to be first to show you why.In 2021 we opened our first bar, Somerset. Built with materials from around the world collected over more than 5 years of boots-on-the-ground travel, now set in a sprawling, vibrant garden and conservatory in the heart of Over-the-Rhine.In 2022 we opened Somerhaus, a sister private event space to meet the intense demand Somerset sees for private events (Somerset is a bar and a community gathering spot. We built it for everybody, so it's open every day).Later in 2022 we opened Alice, a nightlife spot featuring an entirely projection mapped dance floor with mind bending visuals. Inspired by the early early days of Northern Soul then Acid House in the UK, followed by too many hazy weekends in Berlin.Most recently we opened Second Story, a cocktail bar and patio in Covington that embraces many of the fierce independent art and literary movements that have inspired us. Next up we have one more bar to open in Cincinnati in 2023- and trust us, we are really going for it with this one. Then we move onto our true goal, to build a series of design hotels for the next generation. We've spent two years learning, shaping our culture, sharpening our skills, and building our processes. We can't wait for what comes next.. -

Co-FounderFlight Energy Jun 2008 - Jul 2010I co-founded this clean tech startup in Germany. We developed an innovative vertical axis wind turbine, designed by our team of ex Rolls Royce engineers. We designed using first principles to drive turbine down production and installation costs by a factor of 10.- Ensured 99% of components were available 'off the shelf' to simplify supply and maintenance. - The single component that did need complex manufacturing (the blades) had significant innovation in the manufacturing process, ensuring we could produce better blades ~15X faster than anybody else.- Flat pack design and self installation meant where usually one turbine could fit in a shipping container, we could pack 32Ultimately this resulted in a 5kw VAWT turbine that could retail for just $2500, pretty much unheard of.Despite the more than promising product this was ultimately a failed endeavor, largely due to the macro economic climate. Still, one that yielded many good lessons.I personally worked directly on project managing the approval process for large EU and State grants and subsidies. I also worked with authorities to design & receive approval for a manufacturing and R&D facility in East Germany.
