About Bappaditya Paul
The Story So Far…Ever since Tagore happened, people of his clan have been unfailingly getting allured by creative communication – to all its varieties and forms. I’m no exception. As for me, this happened a bit early: got enchanted by the world of journalism when in school and joined a TV news channel straight from the university-oven. Shortly afterwards, found my way into one of India’s most respected English dailies. While on the job, was fortunate to get trained in feature writing and health reporting by the BBC World Service Trust, and in defence reporting by the Ministry of Defence, GoI. I stayed the course and stayed uncompromisingly until I realised – print is becoming pale and digital is the new dawn! Failing to crack an entry (commensurate with my experience level) into the handful of online news entities that existed in India at that time, together with a scribe-friend launched a digital news startup in 2015. For four years, the news startup thrived in journalism and struggled in business. It became evident – as far as India is concerned, there’s no sustainable business model for pureplay digital journalism. This is still the case. Didn’t want to unleash a business-juggernaut over journalism: so, shut shop and switched to corporate communications & public relations. And I don’t have an iota of regret for doing this – for I gave journalism all that I could to the best of my abilities. What I used to do for the world earlier, I now do the same as a corporate communicator – digging, strategising and telling stories that are both engrossing and enlightening. The only difference: in the previous avatar I used to expose fault lines, in the current avatar I polish the fault lines, if any that exists! I was true to my brief then, I’m true to my brief now, and I’m happy at that!
