IMMC/CEREM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqGThyzlEOA)NEWGROW project (NEW opportunities for the GRid of tomorROW) Collaborative project between UCL (BE) and Ugent (BE), financed by Electrabel (BE).The increase of PV on the low voltage grid leads to problems such as strong unbalances or over-voltages leading to production discontinuities, and thus shortfall for the PV owners and the energy provider due to the production uncertainties.Firstly, the project identifies the problematic situations leading to over-voltage and unbalances (in function of the feeder topology, of the PV production and the consumption).Once the problematic situation were identified, different solutions were tested and studied in terms of technico-feasibility. The solutions considered in this project are the -load flexibility (Demand Side Management)-the centralized/decentralized storage-the voltage adaptation of PV tripping. The different solutions considered were deeper studied using a micro-grid (in Kortrijk -Ugent) and a grid model developed by UCL.# ActivitiesDevelopment of different electrical models of the micro-grid (steady state and transient models -Neplan & Simulink-)Assessment and validation of the models using test case on the micro-grid of Ugent.#Technical skillsSimulink and NeplanPower Electronics controlLine, load, inverter, PV modelsLaboratory test on the micro-grid#Additional skillsDutch improvementProject managementCommunication
Biomass Combustion Internship
Internship in the combustion department of Laborelec. This internship was directly coupled with my master thesis concerning the experimental test of combustion of sunflower husks leading to deposits on the heat exchanger in the biomass power plant. These deposits lead indeed to slagging and fouling on the heat exchanger tubes, avoiding in this way a good heat exchange. The power plants operator has then to stop and to clean them, leading to big shortfall for him. Therefore the goal of this internship was to highlight the mechanical and chemical phenomena leading to these kinds of deposits. Different laboratory tests and analysis as well as a review of the existing litterature concerning these depositis were achieved in the frame of this internship. This internship was awarded by the "Stage Award 2013 Electrabel/Laborelec" (1st place).
Teaching Assistant
Teaching exercises in electricity and mechanic (laboratories and exercises), given to students of 1 st and 2nd bachelor in technical engineering.
