I realize that I have not taken a traditional path either in life or my previous employment choices so wanted to give you a bigger picture.My family and I relocated from my hometown of Fort Wayne to Franklin, Tennessee in 2010. I helped open The Container Store in Nashville and working there led me to start my own business as a professional organizer in 2012. As an entrepreneur, I worked with people in their homes to help them make sense of their things (and often, lives!) Being an organizer means being a therapist, cheerleader, accountability partner and a whole host of other jobs all rolled into one. In running Yikes Organizing, I learned marketing skills, time management and how to be a team player as, oftentimes, on the bigger jobs, I would work with other organizers. I thrive on new challenges and am able to multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure, skills I’ve gained through my choices of jobs as well as my life as a mom of six. In 2017, I needed a change. Call it a mid-life crisis or perhaps it’s because both of my parents passed away within a year, but my husband and I hit the road and saw 46 states in three years in our Winnebago. During those years, I continued my organizing business with clients on the road.Now we are back and wanting to do something productive in meaningful in this new stage of life. For the past 25 years, in my spare time, I have been a freelance writer … for the Fort Wayne newspapers, Fort Wayne magazine, iParenting.com, and Pregnancy Magazine, to name a few. I have also self-published three books and contributed to another. My husband and I were missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators and we lived in both Belgium and Congo. In that environment I learned patience, adaptability (in Brazzaville we often went without power for days at a time) and how to get along in a culture far different than ours.
