• Provide leadership to R5 Fire Prevention practitioners. I encourage short and long-term planning, creativity, and integration with other forest disciplines. Emphasize ignition data analysis, Cohesive Strategy/FAC, spatial fire planning, technology as well as effective traditional activities.• Provide technical assistance to state and Pacific Island partners. Participate in programmatic reviews.• Evaluate regional prevention project proposals.• Provide leadership to CWCG’s Interagency Prevention Committee by rebuilding membership ranks.• Vice-Chair of NWCG’s Communication, Education, and Prevention Committee.• Recruit for and coordinate NFPET members in the region building from one team to five within the last two years.• Advisor to leadership of CA Fire Safe Council.• All-hazard response – qualified ESFL, PSC2 (t), LOFR(t). FEMA RISC member.• Advisor to business team leads on the national Prevention Planning Software Project.• Function as SME on Ad Council Smokey Bear shoots.• Liaise with CAL FIRE chiefs on FEPP reviews.• Critique and provide content to CAL FIRE’s Forest and Rangeland Assessment.• Provide technical expertise to non-fire federal partners (FEMA, EPA, etc.) on Community Wildfire Preparedness.• Work with Civil Rights in promoting events for minority and disadvantaged populations.• Participate in forest fire system reviews.

My duties -Update and further develop the Unit Fire Plan and CWPP which includes but is not limited to: ignition data collection and analysis, compiling and communicating unit accomplishments, and expanding the scope of values at risk to include a greater emphasis on natural resources.Work with other Wildland Division staff in implementing a large multi-phase prescribed burn project.Collaborate with and advise Fire Safe Councils on projects, grant-writing and public education opportunities. Work closely with federal, state and other local entities in a landscape scale approach to hazardous fuel reduction. Act as advisor to Fire Hazard Reduction Program manager on native vegetation, reduction approaches in riparian habitats, and code or ordinance provisions and revisions.Collect and document public education, mapping, planning meeting, conservation, fuels and other activities for input into ArcGIS-based CALMAPPER.Provide supervision and mentoring to fire control workers in the Vegetation Management Program.Perform the 5-year SRA review insuring adherence to the SRA Classification Guide.Conduct community/neighborhood wildfire risk assessments.Instruct NWCG courses.Qualified Wildland Fire Investigator - INVFOther duties as assigned.

I: worked with local homeowners, community stakeholders, state & other federal agencies in an effort to educate as well as to mitigate potential threats to communities from wildland fire; had responsibility for assisting cooperators with assessing & administering wildland fire education programs; participated in inter- and intra-agency committees to further the mission of the fire management programs in CA and UT BLM; assessed, recommended and maintained status of hazardous fuel reduction projects - purpose, accomplishments, effectiveness - and produced informational bulletins, posters, and news releases; provided copy to state webmaster/updated the website directly; conducted inspections, facilitated OSHA-compliant training as well as CPR and First Aid, assessed policy and practices, recommended changes,and provided guidance to the District Safety Officer as a District Safety Committee member; served as a contact for media interested in wildland fire management programs & activities; coordinated special events, news releases, and facilitate feature stories related to wildland fire prevention & prepared trespass cases for cost recovery; composed correspondence/written briefings to regularly update county or other legislative officials; conducted community hazard assessments; worked with Utah Forestry Fire & State Lands in developing CWPPs; coordinated fire restrictions/fire closures; maintained situational awareness with regard to daily sit report, fire weather forecasts & behavior; provided fire prevention/fire ecology education programs in local schools; evaluated programs, data, project management, reports, procedures, & operations for appropriateness and improvement; supervised seasonal prevention personnel; facilitated FI-110 training & FI-210 refresher classes; maintained a high level of physical fitness for arduous Red Card quals to support wildfire suppression as needed; completed 1202 fire reports to support senior staff.
