My work involves understanding and teaching others the linguistics, psychology, assessment and practice of reading, writing and text comprehension. Most who are reading this profile have long since forgotten the path they took in order to become high-functioning builders of word castles and decrypters of intricate general and technical knowledge. My expertise is in bringing along those who have no idea or access to the literacy world we here on Linked-In so effortlessly inhabit. As part of my duties at the university, I teach courses in advanced writing and literature, as well.I am presently researching and writing on the epistemology of questions and questioning for practical and, especially, motivational purposes. Much of the valuable modeling of question function was attempted from the 1970’s through the 90’s fueled by DoD money to push along the development of Artificial Intelligence. Little with practical application was accomplished by the many millions of dollars of grant money that went to those efforts of thirty years ago. So my interest and efforts now lie in creating understandings and models that are simple to comprehend and use both in schools and in other settings, such as business, where asking the right question is as important as understanding how the questions others ask of you can be prescient, revealing and evocative. Questions are a stimuli we, as humans, seem hard-wired to respond to. They thus serve as motivators for those who can use them well.Specialties: I have eight years of experience as a public school teacher and three as an administrator in New York City's urban schools. I have been actively involved in educational policy decisions and K-12 literacy implementation in both New York and California. I regularly write and speak on public policy in education.
