I was appointed by Nueces CountyCommissioner’s Court in 2013 to serve an unexpired term as a Port of Corpus Christi Authority Commissioner. I was reappointed twice more by the same body and during my six year tenure, I served as an executive officer and was named Secretary to the Port Authority representing the Port on many trade, and advocacy missions particularly with various federal agencies in Washington D.C. and throughout Latin America and Europe. I was reappointed twice more by the same body and during my six year tenure, I served as an executive officer and was named Secretary to the Port Authority representing the Port on many trade, and advocacy missions particularly with various federal agencies in Washington D.C. and throughout Latin America and Europe. Our Port of Corpus Christi Authority was also a military strategic port as well as being the number one port in the U.S. for oil exports. Serving on the three member security and audit committees, I oversaw a wide range of financial transactions from extensive grant applications to large municipal borrowings. As a member of the executive committee, decisions encompassed the essence of our organizational structure from insurance to employee retirement and health packages to capital infrastructure. This six year experience was incredibly instructive from both a technical and a human resource perspective. We initiated and completed the navigable waterway’s $550 million deepening and widening channel improvement project, instituted a $40 million dollar voluntary relocation project for a local disadvantaged neighborhood to accommodate a new federal bridge , oversaw a large sea grass restoration project and awarded millions of community funds to make a difference in our community under four pillars of education, health, safety and environment. We ushered in an era of renewable energy as well as saw a renaissance in petroleum liquid products . It was a phenomenal six years of building not just docks and piers and rail , but of people inside an organization.
