I am a student at Post University working on my Masters in Counseling and Human Services to obtain my license as a Professional Counselor.I have achieved a 3.6 GPA and gained new knowledge in counseling theories, the application of counseling theories in providing treatment, The American Counseling Association, Ethics, and human development. I have experience in mock therapy session with clients performing counseling techniques such as: paraphrasing, summarizing, providing open-and-closed-ended questions, active listening, reflection of feelings, etc to better understand clients current state. The classes that I have completed are: Human Development, The Counseling Profession, Theories of Counseling, Diversity in Counseling, Assessments and Evaluations in Counseling, Research Methods and Program Evaluations, Emotional and Mental Disorders, Career Counseling, Group Therapy, Psychopathology and psychological assessment, and Counseling and Human services management. I am currently undertaking my Capstone Research Project I course.I have worked in the human services field for 10 years. My background experience involves being an advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. I make myself available to my clients by listening to them, coaching them through their concerns, and being a companion when needed. Some of my tasks included: implementing and helping individuals with daily living skills, participating on activities within the community/home, facilitating groups, collaborating with the staff team on behavior and treatment plans, completing initial intakes and assessments, and documenting on various data sheets.
