I am very devoted to my job and the residents that I serve. I am comfortable in the long term care setting. I believe in doing what is right for the resident, the staff and the organization. I understand the importance of being in compliance with state regulations and promoting safe resident care. I believe that quality of life is more important than quantity of life. I also believe that it is our inerrant right to die with dignity. Each resident has the right to end their story as they choose. It is my job to be there advocate and speak for them when they cannot. To me the essence of Long Term Care is taking care of those that cannot take of themselves. It also is very important to me to make sure that the quality of each resident's life is as good as it can be and that there is no compromise in personal dignity, or needless suffering.

This is ensuring that we have adequate staff and that we are in compliance with state and federal regulations. I operate under an open door policy which means that I leave my office door open to staff and family members. I spend time educating staff and families about chronic disease. I participate in the HF and the PNA readmission meetings, NLC monthly and the Quality of Life Team. I attend the QI meetings and gather information to help improve our quality measures. I am active in hiring new staff and counseling staff that need to get back on track. I work closely with the pharmacy and assist with admissions and discharges.

This included hiring new staff, discharging staff that were noncompliant and making sure that my building was staffed for every shift. I worked closely with the Palliative Care Lincoln Hospice and with Dr. Radut at CMC Lincolnton. It was my responsibility to approve the admissions for the building. I also helped at the nurses desk when an RN was needed. Spent considerable time traveling and attending seminars that supported the work that we were involved in at Lincolnton. -

I also worked on the cart providing nursing care for about l0 years before going to the MDS job. While I was working in MDS I had an opportunity to go back to school to get my RN. I accomplished this in 2004 and was promoted to the Assistant Director of Nursing. Several months later I was asked to go to Century Care of Cherryville (a sister facility) to be the Director of Nursing. I was responsible for all aspects of resident care 24/7. I spent lots of time directly with the residents and the staff building raport with them. I assisted and trained the wound care nurse, revamped systems at the nurses desk and made rounds with the doctors and the nurse practitioner. I also served on the QI committee and the safety committee.
