Director, Martha Guy Summer Institute & Faculty LecturerAppalachian State University Jan 2014 - Jun 2020Boone, NcIn addition to teaching responsibilities in Marketing, I am currently (2014) transitioning to take over the Martha Guy Summer Institute summer enrichment program and the ASU Walker College of Business. The program selects 24 achievement oriented high school juniors that have expressed an interes in pursuing a degree in Business and brings them to Appalachian's campus during July. The students spend 2 weeks working with college level student leaders, faculty, administration and regional business executives learning about various facets of business and creating a new business plan for their student generated new business idea. There is a competition where these business plans are judged by a panel of regional business executives and entrepreneurs. The students then spend a week with site visits in Washington, DC and New York City. -
Faculty LecturerAppalachian State University Aug 2008 - Jun 2020I have taught Professional Selling and Retailing in addition to the basic Principles of Marketing course. In addition, I have had the privilege to develop 2 different First Year Seminar courses that are taught to incoming students. One of these is connected to the Walker College of Business, Business Exploration Residential Learning Community (Business RLC). The students in this class all live on the same dorm floor and take this class together, as a group. We also work with them to expose them to various University services and opportunities, work to develop their Professional Behavior skills, service projects, etc. My enjoyment comes from teaching incoming freshmen and transfer students two different interdisciplinary seminar courses focused on how organizations behave in the current economic climate as well as issues related to ethical Marketing.
