Like many women, I never envisioned myself as a software engineer as a child. Maybe a princess, or model, or a singer, but I didn't know what computer science even was until college. But my unquenchable thirst to learn how to optimize algorithms led me to introduce variables to reduce running time in tiny amounts, even before I'd learned what big-O was. So, as a last-minute decision, I enrolled in a computer science program. But I'll never forget my roots in psychology and Asian American studies. Technology should be welcoming to all, accessible to all, regardless of your gender or race or status. Investing in the present is investing in the future. When writing code, write for the human beings who will come after you. Technology can be just as much of an art as you want it to be. For this reason, I strive to make my work readable, concise, efficient, and beautiful. In my daily work, I'm passionate about discarding outdated, convoluted Java, and ushering a world where Kotlin is the language that powers Android apps. Most of all, though, I'm passionate about using technology to make the world a better place. I'm currently looking for Android development roles where Kotlin is not optional, Jetpack Compose is ~cool~, tech debt is prioritized, having women in tech is not rocket science, content writers also write content descriptions, and mobile accessibility is considered from the design stage. I'm only open to fully remote roles, or hybrid roles where team members make their own decisions about individual in-person days. Please reach out if you have an open position!
