Served as Chief Financial Officer of a large, multi-campus community college serving 20,000 full time equivalent (FTE) students annually. Developed the college-wide budget and advised the President and Board of Trustees on all College financial matters. Directed, plannned, and oversaw the College’s financial and administrative functions and physical facilities. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, recommended policies and procedures pertaining to finance and purchasing, public safety, facilities planning, auxiliary services, which include college food services, bookstore, mail and printing, in addition to all financial operations. Oversaw updates to five campus master plans, setting the groundwork for continued improvements to instructional and support space. During my tenure, two new LEED gold buildings were constructed, including the College’s fifth campus, which opened in fall 2008.

Served as Chief Financial Officer of Lansing Community College, then the nation’s ninth largest single campus community college (annual operating budget of $100 million). Oversaw planning and implementation of systems to improve services in the areas of accounting, payroll, cash operations, purchasing, human resources, facility and liability insurance, physical plant, police and public safety, and auxiliary services. Successfully led College budget planning through a period of substantially declining State funding (from 41% to 28% of College revenues in four years) while holding student tuition rates below the State average for Michigan’s community colleges. Developed the campus’s most comprehensive Facilities Master Plan to improve and expand instructional space on campus. Prepared for bond rating agency reviews and improved Standard & Poor’s rating of Lansing Community College to AAA. Successfully managed three bond issues to fund $90 in new construction and renovation.Successfully presented the College’s case for capital funding to Michigan legislators. Received funding for the College’s second campus, a 290,000 square foot facility campus devoted to the College’s technical and workforce development programs. Led the implementation of college-wide security upgrades and updates to the College’s Emergency Response Plan, including presentations regarding emergency procedures at college-wide convocations. Left Lansing Community College for one year (2003) for employment with the State University of New York (see below).
