About Barbara Lemon

Barbara has worked with major research libraries in Australia and New Zealand, managing collaborative projects for National and State Libraries Australasia (NSLA) and contributing to the development of strategic and stakeholder engagement plans for the National Library of New Zealand. In 2018, she led the British Library's contribution to the European Commission-funded FREYA project (infrastructure for persistent identifiers) before being appointed Executive Director for NSLA. In 2024, she was appointed Director, Curatorial and Collection Research (Commissioned Collections) at the National Library of Australia, with curatorial responsibility for oral history, commissioned photography and selective web archiving.Prior to her work with libraries, Barbara worked in the tertiary, non-profit, business and government sectors. With a focus on Australian history, she has written for newspapers, journals and magazines; tutored and lectured; researched and curated online exhibitions; and produced several documentary programs for ABC radio. Barbara's particular interest is in the communication of academic research to a general audience, and in the promotion of public access to heritage materials.
