Barbara Lock, MD, is an Emergency Physician with more than two decades of clinical experience in academic and community settings. Dr. Lock will complete a Masters in Fine Arts at Sarah Lawrence College with a concentration in speculative fiction. She has held a variety of administrative positions within Columbia University Emergency Medicine and in the community. She developed the Quality program within the Division of Adult Emergency Medicine at CUIMC, prior to the creation of the Department of Emergency Medicine. She teaches Narrative Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her professional interests include writing speculative fiction (science fiction, magical realism, fabulism), medical humanities, curricular design, integrative medicine and acupressure, and environmental medicine. She is available to lead writing workshops on speculative/surreal generative techniques, and Narrative Medicine.
