About Barbara Schultz

Today, I am thrilled to be joining the ranks of the retired!I am so excited that I finally made the decision to take the plunge. We all worry that we will live long enough to collect back all that we paid in CPP and taxes and that we can make our savings last through that long life. I am pretty stoked that I had the courage to deal with that uncertainty.I will not mis the commute to the city; the cold mornings; ths long days and the insane traffic! I will not miss my alarm clock or the stresses that the agile world seems to create these days. I will however miss the many friends I have made over the years. This is the time for my family, friends and myself. I am sure that John will be sick of my help with construction around the house. I hope to spend more time with my 6 growing grandkids and their parents. I was always a bit jealous that John was the "on call" grampa for sick days and excursions. I have no plans at all . . . and yet so many things that I want to do. I am finding myself a bit giddy with choice! I am cleaning out closets and getting rid of clutter and making my beautiful home everything I wanted it to be when I moved here 9 years ago. I have a guitar that has been lonely and a quilt I started over 30 years ago waiting to be finished.I will be Mrs. Claus by Santa's side at every event and hopefully those original Santa stories will be on the bookshelves as we work together on www.thesantamission.ca. I want to put down roots here in Prince Edward County and to make more friends locally. I want to volunteer and continue to learn! I cannot recall the last time I was this excited. What an amazing gift to retire while I am still pretty healthy. . . I might even become a regular on the slopes this winter! The world is my oyster. My husband is predicting that I cannot do this "retirement thing" for long and while I may take on some part time work in 2025 it will because I want to be involved.
