Through RSVP, Barbara is committed to building the capacity of community agencies to better serve the residents of Wayne County. She is the Eastern Regional Representative for the North Carolina Association of Volunteer Administration and the Secretary for the Wayne County Association of Volunteer Administration. She also serves as a board member for NOVA Behavioral Medicine (group homes for troubled youth), Community Representative for Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Ethics Committee, member of Wayne County’s Commissioners’ Council on Older Adults, and the Walnut Creek CERT team (Community Emergency Response Team). Barbara served as a member of the Points of Light Family Strengthening Neighborhood Transformation Task Force, a national initiative to transform low income communities by strengthening families. Prior related positions include: Director, Wayne County Long Term Recovery, an disaster recovery organization that rebuilt homes and provided other resources for individuals and families devastated by Hurricane Floyd; Resource Development for Shreveport Community Renewal, in Shreveport, Louisiana (selected as one of four model programs by the Pew Foundation as pilot programs for community renewal); Coordinator, Education and Community Development, Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, where she was the staff directing the chamber’s five leadership programs, including Leadership Shreveport-Bossier, the Political Training Institute, and the Shreveport Citizen Leadership Academy, a grassroots initiative which developed neighborhood leadership. Barbara served as one of 200 members of the Pew Civic Entrepreneur Initiative in America and is a member of the North Carolina Community Solutions Network. Barbara is a member of Three Eagles Rotary Club of Goldsboro where she has served in numerous leadership positions, including President, and is a Paul Harris Fellow.Specialties: Making connections between people and resources to build stronger communities.
