Oversee compliance activities of the UH Physician Services physician practices, develop annual compliance work plan for UHPS, work with key operational areas to establish monitoring and educational objectives, direct internal audit and probe high risk billing areas, investigate and respond to compliance reports/hotline calls, assist with training activities, chair the UHPS Compliance Committee

Identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned activities fo the Health System; coordinate the development, writing and submission of grant proposals to third party entities; track, analyze and report data on the performance of program activities funded by third party public and private sources; conduct contract reviews and/or negotiations for clinical trial agreements and other research-related contracts in coordination with Research Administration; Oversee Research compliance and Research conflicts of interest; assist with preparation of response to any inquirie from research regulatory agencies; keep abreast of research regulatory changes; provide education on research regulations, policies and procedures; provide legal counsel on physician immigration issues and other areas as assigned.

Draft and negotiate contractual agreements with a particular emphasis on hospital/physician arrangements, educational affiliations, and real estate (including leases, purchases and sales of property); Provide advice on regulatory compliance with state and federal requirements including Antikickback statutes, Physician Self Referral laws and tax exempt organization requirements; Provide legal review and/or advice on varied legal matters, such as government regulations, provider relationships, governance, patient care matters, medical staff issues, government investigations and actions, bioethical issues, research, including clinical trial agreements and scientific misconduct investigations, creditor and collection issues, third party payor issues, intellectual property issues, physician practice management, physician recruitment, employment contracts, licensure and accreditation, reimbursement, financing and bonds, and managed care issues; Assist with compliance and internal audit projects which may involve investigations or development of system-wide team and action plans; Serve on various boards within the Health System, collaborating on corporate and transactional matters; Provide system-wide education on legal topicsCoordinate and review work of legal interns; Interact with; Risk Management on patient and insurance issues

Oversaw and coordinated compliance efforts for Health System, which included an acute care hospital, a critical access hospital, a nursing home, a rehabilitation hospital, a home health agency, a durable medical equipment company, a hospice and physician practices; Implemented a system of risk assessment and tracking to proactively identify compliance risks; Developed and presented educational programs used throughout the Health System; Established system-wide tracking and reporting mechanisms; Chaired compliance related committees and served on HIPAA Privacy and Security Steering Committee, Joint Commission Steering Committee, Performance Improvement Council, Human Resources Policy Committee; Directly supervised a staff of 3 employees, and had indirect reporting relationship with numerous personnel working on compliance at each entity in the Health System; Served as mentor to employees interested in management through corporate mentorship program
