I am a board certified family physician licensed in 17 states. I have been practicing medicine in a variety of settings for over 20 years. I have practiced traditional primary care (with obstetrics), urgent care, telemedicine, occupational medicine, military health care, employee health, medical directorships, and academic medicine. This may seem a little erratic at first glance, but it has all been by design. I have been interested in improving health care delivery and outcomes since I was about 16 years old. I still have an essay that I wrote way back then about the future of health care in America. It is eerily accurate in its predictions. To improve a circumstance, it is important to first study it in different settings and from different perspectives. My multifaceted practice background will serve me well as I transition from being primarily a practicing physician into a more population health based career. In the current healthcare climate, I am very aware of the need to contain costs, while still providing excellent care and insuring good long-term health outcomes. I am very interested in health policy and I would like to help develop policies that will help improve healthcare delivery and outcomes. I have undertaken a number of endeavors in health care policy and management, even while continuing to practice medicine. I would love to transition over to a career that primarily focuses on the identification, analysis, and assessment of health care policy interventions that will ultimately improve outcomes and reduce overall healthcare costs.
