I am a veteran civil rights and human rights leader and advocate. Highlights of my career include serving as the Co-Convenor of the 1995 National Conference on African American Women and the Law; Leading Advocate for the Civil Rights Act of 1991; Delegation leader to the United Nations World Conference on Women 1995 and 2000 Review Conference; Member of the1994 Pre-Elections Delegation to South Africa; North America Representative to the Drafting Committee for the 2001 NGO Forum for the World Conference Against Racism; Leading Advocate for Reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act enacted in 2006, Co-Founder of the Election Protection Coalition 2001 to Present. Led fight against voter suppression 2011-2012 with the creation of the Map of Shame and hundreds of speeches, education of public and through 2012 Election Protection Coalition. Frequent radio show and television show guest. Goal is to prepare new generation of civil rights and human rights leaders. Specialties: The general practice of civil rights law. Special focus on the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

Executive Director

Function as the CEO of this national, non-profit, civil rights law firm, educational and advocacy organization devoted to racial and economic justice. The Lawyers' Committee comprises the largest civil rights pro bono network in the nation. All of its litigation, transaction, public education, public policy and advocacy work is conducted by leveraging the tremendous resources of the country's most prominent law firms. Program areas include voting rights, environmental justice, fair housing, community economic development, employment discrimination, educational opportunities and corporate diversity.
